The extended family of the late Nura Hudu and the group Patriotic Wadata Youths have called for an immediate investigation into his alleged brutal killing in Makurdi.
In an open letter dated 25 July 2026 addressed to Governor Hyacinth Alia, the Inspector-General of Police, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 4, the Governor’s Press Secretary and the Police Public Relations Officer, the family expressed profound concern and disappointment over the continued silence of the relevant authorities.
According to the letter, Nura Hudu was allegedly beaten to death by unknown hoodlums who drove from High Level to Wadata on the orders of a lady following a failed fertilizer business transaction valued at less than ₦80,000. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon, 23 July 2026, at about 2:18pm. Despite the gravity of the matter, neither a formal acknowledgment nor an official press statement has been issued by the authorities to date.
The family respectfully but firmly called on the addressees to immediately launch a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death; identify, arrest and prosecute all persons found culpable in accordance with the full provisions of the law; and keep the family and the general public duly informed of the progress and outcome of the investigation.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. We urge the relevant authorities to treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves,” the letter stated.
The group said it looks forward to prompt and decisive action.
