Debate Intensifies Over Benue’s Hire-Purchase Motorcycle Scheme as Empowerment or Business

A fresh debate has erupted in Benue State over Governor Hyacinth Alia’s hire-purchase motorcycle programme, with critics and supporters clashing on whether the initiative constitutes genuine empowerment or a commercial business arrangement.

In a widely discussed post, Aoraaan Festus questioned the programme, arguing that there is a huge difference between one-time giveaways and sustainable economic empowerment. He noted that while free distribution may benefit a few, it does not create a lasting system to empower thousands of citizens.
