Benue State youth leader Hon. Terver Gbenda has distributed 1,000 bags of rice to young people across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The gesture, however, has drawn criticism from some residents who argue that food handouts are not the solution to the challenges facing Benue youths. In a post shared on social media, one commentator questioned the value of the distribution, stating that empty bags would have been preferable to rice if the goal was genuine empowerment.
The critic maintained that Benue youths need sustainable opportunities rather than temporary relief, and called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to prioritise job creation or the provision of loans that would enable young people to start businesses and improve their livelihoods.
