Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA) has issued an urgent flood warning to residents across the state after the water level of the River Benue rose to an alarming 9.55 metres.
The alert was released by the agency’s Executive Secretary, Sir-James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, PhD, who stated that continuous monitoring confirmed the significant rise in the river’s level. Communities and residents living along riverbanks and in flood-prone areas have been strongly urged to take immediate protective action.
Benue SEMA advised residents to relocate at once to higher ground, move to the nearest designated safe areas, avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways, and keep children away from rivers and drainage channels. The agency described these steps as life-saving measures and called on the public to heed the advice and stay safe.
