Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue Northwest Senatorial District, is under intense scrutiny as constituents and local groups demand accountability. The Jemgbagh Development Forum and angered residents have called for the senator to organize a Town Hall meeting to address his achievements and address growing concerns over his representation.
Critics, including Chief John Asema of the Jemgbagh Development Forum, accuse Zam of failing to deliver any tangible projects despite receiving hundreds of millions of Naira for constituency projects since 2023. Asema revealed a report suggesting Zam, as chairman of the Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission, may be banking on a N140 billion allocation for vote-buying in 2027, rather than initiating development in Zone B.
The senator has also faced criticism for not visiting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) or providing relief materials, with allegations that aid from NEMA was misappropriated by his aides. Constituents further noted Zam’s absence from affected areas like Yilewata in Guma, where communities were attacked by Fulani marauders months ago.
Adding to the pressure, the forum urged Zam to clear his name regarding a N250 million Nano loan fraud linked to him and a petition by the Global Anti Corruption Crusaders accusing him of looting billions while heading the Benue State Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Asema condemned Zam’s focus on decamping ceremonies in Gboko, Alade, and Gwer West, contrasting it with his refusal to engage with voters or showcase achievements.
Residents took to social media yesterday, demanding Zam address these issues and prove his worth as their senator. The growing discontent signals a challenging period for Zam as he faces calls to prepare for retirement in 2027 and make way for new leadership.
