Benue Native, Miss Juliet, Laid to Rest as Family Withdraws Case Over Stalled Justice in Lagos Killing

The remains of Miss Juliet, a young woman from Obi Local Government Area in Benue State, have been laid to rest in her home state weeks after her tragic death in Lagos.

Juliet reportedly lost her life on November 4, 2025, following an alleged brutal attack by suspected street hoodlums, commonly referred to as agberos, in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

According to family sources, the pursuit of justice hit a deadlock when police investigations failed to locate the principal suspect believed to be responsible for the killing. Frustrated by weeks spent in Lagos with no significant progress, the family ultimately decided to withdraw the case.

Her body was subsequently transported back to Benue State for burial.

Relatives have expressed profound disappointment over the release of members of the suspect’s family, who had initially been detained in connection with the incident.

Speaking on the matter, rights advocate Dr. Laff suggested that the case may have been compromised due to the family’s financial constraints in sustaining a prolonged legal fight.

The incident continues to raise broader concerns about access to justice, police effectiveness in tracing suspects, and the safety of vulnerable citizens, especially migrants from other states living in major urban centers like Lagos.
