A new era is dawning for nursing education in Benue State as the Benue State College of Nursing Sciences, Makurdi, prepares to host a crucial Resource Inspection and Accreditation visit by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The high-powered delegation is scheduled to arrive from Sunday, 28th December, to Tuesday, 30th December 2025.
This visit represents the final and most critical step toward the institution achieving full Collegiate Status, a monumental milestone made possible under the reform-driven leadership of the current administration. At the forefront of this transformation is Nr. Mrs. Victoria Gusa, a renowned Nurse Educator and Administrator who was appointed in an acting capacity by His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Executive Governor of Benue State, on 22nd August 2025.
In a remarkably short time, the college has undergone significant strategic reforms under her visionary leadership, turning the once-distant goal of accreditation into an imminent reality. This achievement reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to excellence, quality assurance, and raising the standard of nursing education across the state.
The effort has been bolstered by the steadfast support of the Executive Governor, the insightful leadership of the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Ogwuche Ejeh Paul, the dedicated guidance of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Beatrice Tsavmbu, and the invaluable contributions of the Director of Nursing Services at the State Ministry of Health and Human Services, Nr. Rebecca Idoko Odije.
During the visit, the NBTE team will conduct a thorough assessment of the college’s human and material resources, infrastructure, and academic processes for the accreditation of its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. A successful outcome will formally integrate the institution into the national polytechnic system, opening wider opportunities for students, staff, and the broader healthcare sector in Benue State.
