Gov. Alia Congratulates Emberga Over Emergance as Speaker, BSHA

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, a significant political shift occurred in Benue State as Honourable Emberga was elected as the new Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA). The election took place during an emergency sitting on Sunday, August 24, following the voluntary resignation of the previous Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia extended his warm congratulations to the newly elected Speaker, describing the event as a testament to democratic values. “Governor Alia who commends the swift process that led to the emergence of a new leader of the legislative arm of government in the State, says the election of Hon. Emberga is a testament to the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues and a reflection of his commitment and ability to uphold democratic values,” stated Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, in a press statement posted on Facebook.

The transition was smooth, with Governor Alia expressing optimism about the future under Emberga’s leadership. He highlighted the new Speaker’s potential to drive legislative progress, noting, “He expresses confidence that under the leadership of Honourable Emberga, the Benue State House of Assembly will continue to work tirelessly towards the formulation and enactment of laws and policies aimed at improving the lives of the people of the State.”

In his message, the Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration among the legislative, executive, and judicial arms of government. “He calls on the legislative arm of government to continue to maintain a strong and cordial relationship with the executive and Judiciary arms, insisting that it is only through collaboration and cooperation that the state can be able to achieve sustainable development and deliver dividends of democracy that will reach every citizen,” the statement continued.

Governor Alia also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, while rallying support for the new leadership. “While he appreciates the outgoing Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, for his contributions as the leader of the state legislature, the governor assures the newly elected Speaker, as well as all members of the Benue State House of Assembly, of his unwavering support and commitment to continue to work together for the overall good of the Benue,” Sir Kula quoted.
