A dramatic incident unfolded in Otukpo late last night when the HK center was busted, leading to the rescue of several young boys who had just completed secondary school. According to a post by local resident Meddy Olotu Imanoel on Facebook, the boys had been lured into starting a yahoo (internet fraud) operation and were kept against their will for over two months without proper feeding.
One of the boys managed to escape, prompting a chase down Upu road. Local residents intervened, helping the boy and alerting authorities. Imanoel promptly contacted the chairman of Otukpo, who, along with government official Hon. Maxwell Ogiri, responded swiftly. Despite the late hour, the local government acted decisively, dispatching a response team to the scene.
Images shared by Imanoel depict emergency vehicles with flashing lights at the site, indicating a rapid response from authorities. The rescued boys are reportedly safe, though details about their condition remain scarce. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable youth in the region.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, but the quick action by the community and government officials has been widely praised. Further investigations into the HK center’s operations are expected to follow.
