Open Letter Accuses Asom D Jerry of Defaming Governor Alia, Demands Retraction and Apology

Tofi Simon Ternenge has issued a strongly worded open letter to the public, security agencies, and the Benue State Government, accusing social media commentator Asom D Jerry of malicious defamation against the office of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia.

In the letter dated June 24, 2026, Ternenge described Jerry’s publications as containing deliberate falsehoods, particularly claims that the Governor exercises improper control and influence over the private marital affairs of citizens in the state. He dismissed the allegations as wholly false, unsubstantiated, and defamatory.

The letter emphasized that Governor Alia’s relationships with government appointees and staff remain strictly official and professional, in line with public service regulations. It argued that attempts to link the Governor’s office to private domestic matters are calculated efforts to bring the government into disrepute.
