Benue Government, UNICEF Launch Grassroots Child Protection Training in Otukpo

The Benue State Government has commenced a five-day capacity-building programme for Community-Based Child Protection Structures (CBCPS) in Otukpo Local Government Area, in partnership with UNICEF.

The training, organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, seeks to equip community volunteers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to better protect vulnerable children and enhance child protection services at the grassroots level.

The programme is being held simultaneously at designated centres across Otukpo and has brought together volunteers and child protection stakeholders from various communities to strengthen their capacity in safeguarding children against abuse, neglect, exploitation, trafficking, and other forms of violence.

The Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, emphasized that sustainable child protection requires strong community institutions capable of identifying children at risk and facilitating prompt intervention. Participants will receive comprehensive training on child safeguarding principles, case management, referral mechanisms, psychosocial support, community engagement, and child rights advocacy.
