A former aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the Benue South Senatorial District, Daniel Onjeh, has announced his decision to withdraw support for President Bola Tinubu and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onjeh made the declaration while sharing a video of a recent meeting he held with Rabiu Kwankwaso, identified as the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). In the same statement, he publicly declared his support for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, describing himself as “humbly Obidient.”
According to him, some APC leaders had misconstrued his principles as stubbornness. “They misconstrued my principles as stubbornness. Now, I’m humbly Obidient. You go where you’re valued,” Onjeh stated.
The development marks a significant shift in his political alignment. Before the APC primary, Onjeh had openly supported the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Alia. He had sought the party’s senatorial ticket for Benue South but failed to secure it in the primary held in May 2026.
Although Onjeh did not provide further details on his next political step, his public declaration has already drawn attention within political circles, particularly in Benue South. As the 2027 elections approach, the move is expected to contribute to ongoing realignments among politicians and supporters across parties.
