Former APC Benue South Senatorial candidate, Daniel Onjeh, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to disregard what he described as misinformation and political propaganda targeted at Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State.

In a notable statement, Onjeh maintained that the governor should be assessed based on his performance and contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in Benue, rather than political whisper campaigns. He made the remarks despite admitting personal disappointment over the outcome of the recent APC primary election, where he believes he was treated unfairly after years of loyalty to the party.
Onjeh recalled campaigning alongside Governor Alia during the 2023 general elections and credited the governor’s credibility as a Catholic priest with helping to reassure Christian voters in the face of resistance to the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in parts of North Central Nigeria.
He acknowledged that Alia may not have mastered the political game due to his background in the priesthood, but insisted this should not be mistaken for poor leadership or disrespect. Onjeh noted that while some political interests are pushing media campaigns against the governor, ordinary people in Benue are more concerned with roads, schools, hospitals, salaries, and development.
The former senatorial candidate expressed confidence in Governor Alia’s strong grassroots support and his ability to emerge victorious through any lawful APC governorship nomination process. He urged President Tinubu to focus on the genuine feelings of the people of Benue State when evaluating the governor’s performance.
