Governor Hyacinth Alia has declared Thursday, June 11, 2026, a work-free day for civil servants in Benue State to enable them to attend the burial of the late Head of Service, Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode.
The Governor made the announcement during a valedictory session held on Wednesday at the Old Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi, in honour of the deceased. He also revealed that a government housing estate acquired for civil servants around the Welfare Quarters area will be named after Dr. Agbogbo Ode in recognition of his contributions.
Governor Alia described the late Head of Service as a patriot, reformer, and key contributor to the administration’s governance reforms. He noted that Dr. Ode’s death was a personal loss to him and the entire State Executive Council.
The Governor recalled appointing Dr. Ode strictly on merit after reviewing several profiles, despite having no prior personal interaction with him. He praised the late administrator for embracing the administration’s vision from the outset, driving reforms with discipline, patriotism, and commitment. He described him as hardworking, dependable, and dedicated to the progress of Benue State.
Governor Alia urged the people to appreciate and celebrate dedicated public servants while they are alive. He assured the family of the late HoS of full government support during this difficult period and prayed for God’s comfort and eternal rest for the deceased.
The announcement has been received with mixed emotions across the state, as civil servants prepare to honour the memory of the late Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode, who played a significant role in strengthening the civil service and implementing government policies.
