President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the 5 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Makurdi, Benue State. The decision forms part of the Federal Government’s plan to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions aimed at strengthening national security and enhancing military operations across the country.
According to reports, the new 5 Division Headquarters will have operational responsibility over Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi States. This strategic move positions Benue State as a key military command centre in Nigeria’s security architecture.
The development is expected to improve command and control structures, boost security coordination, enhance the protection of lives and property, and support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity in Benue State and neighbouring areas. Stakeholders believe it will also stimulate economic activities associated with hosting a divisional headquarters and promote sustainable development.
Benue Reality Media (BRM) commended President Tinubu for the intervention and also appreciated the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume, for his continued commitment to advancing the interests of Benue State at the national level. The media outfit congratulated the people of Benue State on this milestone, expressing confidence that the new military formation will further enhance security, encourage investment, and foster lasting peace and stability in the region.
