Private school owners in Benue State have received a strong wake-up call from the government.
The Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB), in collaboration with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has announced the commencement of enforcement visits to all private schools that have not complied with proper school establishment processes, quality assurance guidelines, and the payment of annual renewal fees to BIRS.
In a formal notice, all private schools across the state are required to submit evidence of payment of their Annual Renewal Fees for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026 to their respective Local Government Area Tax Offices (BIRS) on or before the close of business on 29th April 2026.
The statement further warns that schools failing to regularize their registration status or those without a valid BEQAEB Certificate of Consent risk the closure of their premises. Owners have been strongly advised to act promptly to avoid any drastic measures.
The notice was signed by Rev. Fr. Terungwa Tor, PhD, Director of Enforcement & Compliance Operations, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board.
This enforcement drive is aimed at ensuring that only qualified and properly registered private schools operate in the state, thereby maintaining high standards in education delivery and improving revenue generation for the government.
Private school proprietors are urged to treat this notice with the urgency it deserves and comply before the deadline to prevent any disruption to academic activities.
If you run or know someone running a private school in Benue, now is the time to check your compliance status and make necessary payments.
