The crisis within the Governor Hyacinth Alia faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has deepened as another aspirant for the Benue State House of Assembly, Amb. Moses Hembanzan, has resigned from the party.
Hembanzan, who was contesting for the Gwer East Constituency seat, cited injustice, internal challenges, and high cost of nomination forms as major reasons for his exit. In his resignation statement, he lamented that the exorbitant cost of forms has shut out many youths from participating in politics, describing the situation as one that encourages inequality and political godfatherism.
He expressed disappointment over the party’s failure to address members’ concerns, stating that despite his contributions, the party now appears more focused on revenue generation than on inclusiveness and fair representation.
The resignation adds to the growing list of aspirants pulling out of the Alia faction amid ongoing internal crises. Hembanzan’s decision is seen by many observers as a sign of deepening discontent within the faction ahead of future electoral activities.
The development has further heightened tension in the Benue APC, as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions between different camps.
As the situation unfolds, many political watchers are monitoring how the leadership of the Alia faction will respond to the wave of resignations and growing discontent among its members.
