Governor Alia Directs Inclusive 2026 International Youth Day Celebration in Benue

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has directed that the 2026 International Youth Day celebration with the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” be organised as an inclusive event that accommodates all youth groups and youth organisations across the state.

The directive was conveyed on Thursday during the inaugural meeting of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the forthcoming celebration, held on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of the Benue State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creativity in Makurdi. The meeting, presided over by Hon. Gbenda Terver, SSA to the Governor on Youths Organisation and Illegal Levies/01 Benue Youths, focused on strategies for organising a memorable and impactful International Youth Day celebration that reflects the aspirations and diversity of young people in the state.

Representing the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creativity, the Director in the ministry, Mr. Degaar Jonathan, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the planning process and ensuring the success of the event.

As part of resolutions reached at the meeting, members approved the constitution of various sub-committees, with their composition expected to be presented to the Central Planning Committee at its next sitting. The inaugural session was attended by key government appointees, including Hon. Terver Gbenda, Hon. Reuben Nyinya, Hon. Atim Emmanuel, Mr. Ngutswen Francis and Hon. Terungwa Ahoho. Also in attendance were youth leaders from across the three Zones in the State, student union representatives and leaders of various youth organisations who pledged their support towards delivering a successful and all-inclusive International Youth Day celebration in Benue State.

The planned celebration is expected to provide a platform for engaging young people on issues of leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, peacebuilding and sustainable development, while showcasing the talents and contributions of Benue youths to the state’s growth and development.
