The Tor Sankera, His Royal Highness Chief David Sevav, has pledged to restore peace and stability across the Sankera axis before the end of 2026, following the presentation of a ceremonial Chief Chair by the Ukum Development Association (UDA), Makurdi branch.
The symbolic event, held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, marked a significant moment in the monarch’s reign, as he described the honour as both a recognition of his authority and a call to greater responsibility. Chief Sevav expressed gratitude to God and members of the association for the gesture, noting that the ceremonial chair reaffirmed his traditional status and strengthened his resolve to serve his people diligently. He assured residents that efforts were underway to tackle insecurity in the area, stressing that peace and normalcy would return before the end of the year. The monarch also reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership, unity, and grassroots development.
In a move seen as fostering closer ties with the community, the Tor Sankera approved the continued use of his residence for UDA meetings, reinforcing his open-door leadership style. Earlier, UDA President Mr. Ayongo Terwase said the association had long prayed for the emergence of Chief Sevav as Tor Sankera, expressing gratitude that their expectations had been fulfilled. He commended the monarch for his consistent support, particularly for allowing the association to use his residence for meetings, and explained that the ceremonial chair was conceived during a congress as a contribution to support the monarch’s official duties.
The highlight of the gathering was the formal presentation of the ceremonial chair, which drew applause from members and well-wishers in attendance. In a related development, the Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, Professor Timothy Terseer Alaba, urged members of the association to uphold humility and integrity in their engagements. Professor Alaba appreciated the Tor Sankera for his support during his emergence as Vice-Chancellor and commended Sankera professors for backing his candidacy, which he said played a crucial role in his appointment.
Mr. Terwase also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, noting that the association had earlier made efforts to honour him following his appointment, including issuing a congratulatory letter and radio announcements. Several stakeholders, including Engr. Igba Leva, Barr. Bernard Nule, Mr. Jones Atimejor, and Barr. Agatse Tyosaa, congratulated the monarch on his ascension, praising his leadership style, hospitality, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The coincidental meeting at the Tor Sankera’s residence, stakeholders said, further strengthened ties between the traditional institution, academia, and the Sankera community.
