In a collaborative effort to support vulnerable populations in Benue State, Novus Microfinance Bank (Novus MFB) joined forces with the A Thousand Hills Empowerment Foundation to conduct a comprehensive outreach program at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp located within the International Ultra Modern Market in Makurdi.
The initiative, carried out recently, combined immediate healthcare services with long-term financial education, addressing both the urgent and sustained needs of displaced individuals and families. The health component featured free medical screenings, basic treatments, and health education sessions aimed at promoting wellness and disease prevention among camp residents who often face limited access to medical facilities.
Simultaneously, Novus Microfinance Bank led a dedicated financial literacy workshop themed “Building Financial Strength through Savings, Responsible Borrowing, Repayment Discipline, and Business Growth.” The session equipped participants with practical tools and knowledge to enhance their economic stability, encouraging habits such as consistent saving, prudent use of credit, timely repayment, and strategies for small business development.
Participants at the camp expressed deep appreciation for the dual-focus intervention, noting that it effectively tackled their immediate health concerns while also laying the groundwork for improved financial independence and resilience. Many highlighted how the combination of medical support and financial empowerment created a meaningful sense of hope and practical assistance in challenging circumstances.
The partnership between Novus Microfinance Bank and the A Thousand Hills Empowerment Foundation underscores the growing recognition of integrated development approaches in addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by IDP communities. By blending healthcare delivery with financial inclusion efforts, the two organizations demonstrated how strategic collaborations can deliver holistic support to displaced persons, helping them rebuild stability in both body and livelihood.
This outreach serves as a reminder of the critical role that targeted, community-based interventions play in uplifting vulnerable groups, particularly in regions affected by displacement due to conflict, insecurity, and other crises. As similar initiatives continue across Benue State and beyond, they offer valuable models for combining immediate relief with sustainable empowerment strategies to foster lasting positive change.
