Governor Hyacinth Alia has issued a clear directive to political appointees in his administration who intend to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections, setting March 30, 2026, as the deadline for them to resign from their current roles.

The governor announced the decision on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, while addressing Muslim faithful during an Iftar (breaking of fast) he hosted at the New Banquet Hall of Government House, Makurdi. According to the governor, early resignation will allow him sufficient time to identify and appoint capable replacements who can sustain the administration’s momentum. He stressed that he is determined to maintain focus on delivering results and fulfilling his covenant with the people of Benue.

“I invite all people of good conscience to join hands with me so that we can make Benue a place that attracts everybody,” he said. “When you see earthmoving machines working on our hitherto dilapidated roads, that is development. When you see civil servants going to work and closing happily, that is development.”
