A concerned Benue resident, Benedict Clicks, has voiced deep frustration over the recurring violent incidents in Kwande Local Government Area, particularly the recent killings that have claimed innocent lives in Tiv-speaking communities.
In a widely shared statement, Clicks expressed dismay at what he described as a predictable and ineffective pattern following each attack: politicians visit the affected areas, distribute relief items such as bags of rice, make promises of improved security, and then the cycle of violence continues without meaningful resolution.
He stated: “After the killings, the only thing that usually happens is that politicians will come and share bags of rice, and people will forget everything, laugh with the politicians, and even reelect them.” Clicks lamented that this temporary relief and apparent complacency allow the root causes of insecurity to persist unabated.
The outspoken resident urged Tiv-speaking communities to rise above the pattern of short-term gestures and demand genuine accountability, truth, and lasting justice from leaders. He stressed that sustained advocacy, active community engagement, and refusal to normalize violence are essential to breaking the cycle and achieving enduring peace.
Clicks’ remarks come amid ongoing insecurity in parts of Kwande, where repeated attacks have resulted in loss of lives, displacement, and destruction of property. While humanitarian support has reached some affected families, many residents insist that more proactive and strategic interventions are urgently needed to address the underlying drivers of violence.
His call reflects a growing sentiment among citizens who feel that political gestures often overshadow the need for concrete, long-term action. Clicks concluded by encouraging Tiv-speaking people to speak truth to power and work collectively toward a future where communities no longer live in fear of violence.
The statement has resonated widely online, reigniting discussions on the need for stronger security measures, genuine governance, and community-driven efforts to restore lasting peace in Benue State.
