Young Tiv Man Killed in Fresh Attack in Amadu Community, Taraba State

A young Tiv man was reportedly killed in a shooting incident in Amadu community, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, on Wednesday, May 28, 2026.

According to residents, the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. near the Amadu Market while commercial activities were ongoing. Gunshots were heard from a nearby bush area close to farming settlements, causing panic among traders and market visitors from various ethnic groups including Tiv, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, and Kuteb communities.

Eyewitnesses stated that farmers working in the area returned to the community after hearing the gunfire. The body of a young Tiv male was later discovered with gunshot wounds. Some residents alleged that the attackers were armed Fulani militia members, though this claim is yet to be independently verified by security authorities.

Police reportedly responded promptly to the scene and arrested two Fulani men who emerged from the direction of the shooting. The suspects were identified by some farmers as being connected to the attack. As of the time of the report, the identities of the suspects and full circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially confirmed by the police.

Despite heightened tension, the community reportedly remained calm, allowing security agencies to handle the situation. Residents have called for a thorough investigation, justice for the deceased, and strengthened security in the area to prevent further violence.

This latest incident occurs as Amadu community continues efforts to recover from previous conflicts that have strained relations between local residents and armed groups operating in the region. No official police statement had been issued at the time of the report.
