A US missionary who spent time quietly helping rebuild homes in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, has surprised many after revealing his background as a former American military personnel.

Alex Barbir, founder of Building Zion, an organisation focused on humanitarian aid and community rebuilding, recently shared photos of himself in full US military uniform and body armour. The images, which surfaced widely online, contrasted sharply with the humble, low-profile image he projected while living and working among displaced communities in Benue.

According to reports circulating on social media platforms, Barbir helped facilitate the reconstruction of approximately 35 homes in Yelewata following devastation caused by earlier violence in the area. He reportedly lived simply among the people, never highlighting his military past or personal background, and presented himself solely as a missionary dedicated to humanitarian service.
