US Humanitarian Alex Barbir Joins Protest in Kwande, Calls on Nigerian Government to End Killings in Benue

US-based humanitarian activist Alex Barbir has joined a large protest in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, marching alongside local residents to demand an immediate end to what he described as routine massacres in the region.

In a post shared on social media, Barbir documented his participation in the demonstration, which took place amid dust storms and rain. He walked with protesters wearing T-shirts bearing slogans such as “END THE KILLINGS IN KWANDE NOW” and “STOP THE KILLING,” capturing the determination of the crowd despite the harsh weather.

Barbir emphasized that the message remained clear through the adverse conditions: “Stop the killing.” He directly addressed the Nigerian government, stating that its utmost duty is the preservation of its people. He criticized what he called the continued allowance of massacres, asserting that such violence has become routine and must be stopped at all costs.

“Through the dust storm and rain the message was clear: stop the killing. To the Nigerian government, your utmost duty is the preservation of your people. To this day, massacres have been allowed and continue to happen routinely. Defend your people at all costs,” Barbir wrote.

The protest in Kwande follows heightened tensions in the area after recent violent incidents, including reports of attacks on communities that led to deaths, abductions, and displacement. Barbir’s presence and vocal condemnation have amplified local calls for decisive federal intervention and greater protection for vulnerable farming communities in Benue.
