Ukan Kurugh Calls for Solidarity as He Faces Court Over Police Brutality Advocacy

Human rights activist Ukan Kurugh has issued a call for solidarity as he prepares to appear in court today.

In a Facebook post, Kurugh stated that he will be appearing at Federal High Court 2, North Bank, opposite Aper Aku Housing Estate in Makurdi, in a case filed against him by the police. The charge, according to him, stems from his consistent advocacy against police brutality and his demands for accountability in policing.

Kurugh described the matter as bigger than himself, framing it as a broader fight for the right to speak, question authority, and demand justice without intimidation.

He urged citizens, civil society groups, and defenders of justice to show up at the court in solidarity, stating: “Show up. Stand up. Let your presence speak. Justice is not given, it is defended.”

The post, which includes his photo, was made approximately five hours ago.
