The Tiv Area Traditional Council, under the leadership of its President and Tor Tiv, Orcivirigh Prof James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse CFR, has issued a formal directive calling all Tiv sons and daughters—both at home and in the diaspora—to take note of the upcoming regular Supreme Council Meeting, known as Ijir Tamen.
The crucial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Council Chambers in Gboko, commencing at 10:00 a.m. sharp.
A special invitation has been extended to all graded and ungraded traditional rulers within the Tiv kingdom, Local Government Council Chairmen, Tiv Honorific Chieftaincy Title holders, and the National EXCO of Mdzough U Tiv—the apex sociocultural organization of the Tiv people.
According to the announcement signed by Shinyi Tyozua, Secretary of the Tiv Area Traditional Council, the meeting will focus on pressing issues affecting the Tiv nation and other related matters.
The statement concluded with a prayer: “May the Almighty God bless you as you honour this invitation.”
This high-level assembly comes at a time of heightened socio-political and security concerns across Benue State and the Tiv nation, making the deliberations potentially pivotal for unity, development, and cultural preservation.
With the Tor Tiv himself presiding, expectations are high that the Ijir Tamen will chart a unified path forward for one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential ethnic groups.
