Eighteen residents, including eight women, who were reportedly abducted in Benue State have remained in captivity despite the payment of ransom. The development has sparked widespread anger among affected families and community members who feel their efforts to secure the victims’ freedom have not yielded results.
Residents in Tyomu took to the streets in protest, with women, children and men joining the demonstration. They called on the Governor of Benue State to intervene and help secure the release of those kidnapped while travelling to a burial along the Otokpo road.
The protesters blocked the road as they expressed their frustration over the continued detention of their relatives. Placards were displayed during the demonstration, reflecting the community’s demand for urgent action from those in authority.
The road blockade has disrupted movement in the area, leaving motorists and other road users stranded in the resulting hold-up. Community members have urged the public to draw the attention of relevant authorities to the situation.
The incident has heightened concerns about security in the locality, with residents insisting that swift government intervention is needed to free the abducted persons and restore calm to the community.
