Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced that a government-owned housing estate for civil servants will be named after the late Head of Service, Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode, in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the state’s civil service.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday, June 11, 2026, during a valedictory session held in honour of the late Head of Service at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi. He described Dr. Ode as a patriot, reformer, diligent administrator, and dedicated public servant who embraced the administration’s vision and played a pivotal role in strengthening the civil service through discipline and commitment to duty.
As part of efforts to immortalise the late administrator, Governor Alia declared Thursday, June 11, a work-free day for all civil servants to enable them to participate in the burial activities. The remains of Dr. Ode were laid to rest in his hometown, Adamu East, Ito, in Obi Local Government Area.
In further honour of the deceased, the governor announced immediate employment for Dr. Ode’s wife and directed that a comprehensive report on the developmental needs of Igede land be prepared for necessary action. He also reaffirmed his commitment to completing ongoing projects in the area, including road networks.
Leading mourners at the funeral, Governor Alia described the death of Dr. Ode as a great personal and collective loss, while pledging to sustain the civil service reforms championed by the late Head of Service. Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode is survived by his wife, two children, and numerous relatives.
