The deteriorating state of General Hospital Oju has sparked serious concern among residents, who are calling on the Benue State Government, the Benue State Hospital Management Board, and relevant authorities to intervene urgently.
Described as a place that should offer hope, healing, and dignity, the hospital is reportedly plagued by decaying infrastructure, inadequate facilities, and poor environmental conditions that fall short of acceptable healthcare standards. Patients, expectant mothers, children, and healthcare workers are said to be bearing the brunt of the situation.
In a strongly worded community report, Bishop Ogi John Otor appealed to government officials, policymakers, and community leaders to take immediate action to rehabilitate the facility, provide essential equipment, and improve infrastructure.
“This is not about assigning blame; it is about accepting responsibility and taking action,” the Bishop stated, emphasising that the health of the people should remain a priority. He called for a comprehensive intervention to restore confidence in the healthcare system, noting that the people of Oju deserve a hospital that reflects the value of human life.
