The Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB) has ramped up preparations for the upcoming 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which will be the first since the agency’s merger.

This was disclosed during a high-level briefing held at the Board’s headquarters in Makurdi, which brought together principals from across Benue State. According to BEQAEB Executive Secretary, Dr. Terna Francis, the meeting focused on ensuring seamless examination planning and execution, covering proper registration, material distribution, and result processing.

Dr. Francis noted that despite challenges such as late registration and incomplete school uploads, the Board had already completed sorting and bagging of examination materials seven days ahead of the meeting. He announced a final deadline of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for schools to complete all required uploads, warning that failure to comply would result in forfeiture of participation in the examination.

The Board extended registration deadlines multiple times to accommodate schools in insecure or financially constrained areas. New transparency and accountability measures were also introduced, including redesigned answer booklets bearing the BEQAEB name, website, and a dedicated call/WhatsApp contact line for real-time reporting of issues through a situation room.

In a bid to improve security, examination materials will now be placed in official bags supplied free by the Board instead of being transported in envelopes or hand-carried. Principals were further reminded to update Continuous Assessment (CA) records on the e-dossier platform, with each learner’s unique e-dossier PIN required on answer booklets to prevent manipulation and ensure data integrity.
