Man Killed by Suspected Armed Fulani Herders in Southern Taraba, Communities Cry Out Over Insecurity

A resident of southern Taraba State, Mr. Steven Terkuma Tarkaa, was reportedly shot dead this morning, Sunday, February 8, 2026, by suspected armed Fulani terrorists while travelling from Amadu to Takum.

According to accounts circulating on social media from community sources, the victim was ambushed along the route in an attack attributed to armed groups that locals describe as Fulani terrorists. His lifeless body was later recovered and photographed, showing visible signs of gunshot wounds.

The incident has heightened fears among Tiv communities in the southern part of Taraba State, who claim they are increasingly under siege from recurring attacks. Community voices expressed deep frustration, alleging that despite repeated violent incidents resulting in deaths and displacement, there has been little visible intervention or public outcry from relevant authorities to address the escalating insecurity.

The killing of Mr. Terkuma Tarkaa is the latest in a string of violent episodes reported in the Takum and surrounding areas, where farmers, travellers, and villagers have frequently come under assault. Locals argue that the persistent threat has created an atmosphere of fear, restricting movement and disrupting daily livelihoods in the predominantly Tiv-inhabited regions.

Messages of condolence have begun to circulate online, with many paying tribute to the deceased and calling for justice. The post announcing his death included the simple plea: “RIP” alongside expressions of heartbreak over the ongoing violence.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by the Taraba State Police Command or other security agencies confirming the incident or detailing any immediate response. Residents continue to appeal for urgent and decisive action to restore safety and protect lives in the affected communities.
