In a powerful reflection that has resonated across Benue State, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has reaffirmed that his style of leadership is rooted in the biblical principle that true faith is best shown through works, not words, declaring that he propagates the gospel through tangible acts of service rather than pulpit theatrics or political propaganda.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Catholic priest-turned-governor emphasized that his administration remains deliberately focused on results over rhetoric, drawing inspiration from James 2:18: “Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”
Governor Alia, now approaching two years in office, said he consciously avoids using God’s name for political legitimacy or emotional manipulation, a practice he subtly contrasted with some past leaders who he said turned faith into a tool for propaganda and persecution of perceived enemies.
“I came believing Benue’s basket was only broken and needed mending,” he revealed. “But on assumption of office, I discovered it required complete renewal. That realization meant giving my sweat, my utmost sacrifice, and my soul to this mission. And I am still doing so, and will continue until the end of my second term, because building a new Benue is possible.”
He described himself as “a field man, not just a Governor in the office,” insisting that effective priesthood and governance both demand being on the ground, shaping the narrative through action, and earning the people’s trust by letting results speak louder than announcements.
The governor disclosed that his greatest energy comes from the over seven million people of Benue, their voices, their resilience, and their continued expectations. “The masses are my motivation. When they speak, I hear God’s voice,” he said, adding that their support pushes him to keep raising the bar of excellence without creating artificial limits.
He praised his team’s commitment to constant monitoring, evaluation, and real-time programming, saying it is the only way to ensure lasting impact in a state that had long yearned for genuine transformation.
As stated by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia’s quiet, disciplined, and purpose-driven approach continues to win hearts across the state, with many residents testifying that for the first time, they are seeing faith translated into roads, schools, hospitals, security, and restored dignity, without the usual noise of self-praise.
In the words of the governor himself: “With Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Benue shall be great again.” And day by day, through service and sacrifice, that promise is becoming reality.
