Governor Hyacinth Alia has delivered an early Christmas gift to the people of Benue State with the official launch of the 2025 Yuletide Transport Fare Slash, bringing the cost of intra-state travel to its lowest in years.
The flagship route from Makurdi to Gboko, previously hovering between ₦2,500 and ₦3,000 depending on the operator and vehicle type, has been pegged at a flat ₦1,000 by Benue Links Nigeria Limited. Similar drastic reductions now apply across all 23 local government routes operated by the state-owned transport company.
Released moments ago, the approved fare chart shows:
– Makurdi – Gboko: ₦1,000
– Makurdi – Ado: ₦3,000
– Makurdi – Guma: ₦800
– Makurdi – Gwer East: ₦1,000
Other destinations such as Otukpo, Katsina-Ala, Zaki-Biam, Oju, Kwande and Vandekya have all received substantial cuts ranging from 40% to 60% off the regular rates.
The Governor’s directive, which takes immediate effect, is designed to ease the financial burden on families travelling home for Christmas and New Year celebrations amid the prevailing economic realities.
Commuters at the various Benue Links parks in Makurdi were seen jubilating as the new rates were pasted on notice boards this evening, with many describing the gesture as “a direct touch of the people-oriented governance Governor Alia promised.”
The subsidised fares will run throughout the festive season and are expected to be strictly enforced by the management of Benue Links and monitoring teams deployed by the state Ministry of Transport.
For the thousands of Benue indigenes in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and other cities already planning their Christmas journey home, the message is clear: Father Alia has made the road cheaper so you can come home and celebrate with your people.
