North-Central States Rally to Revitalize Basic Education as Benue SUBEB Chair Joins Nasarawa Summit

In a strong show of regional collaboration, the Executive Chairman of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Dean of SUBEB Chairmen in the North Central zone, Dr. Grace D. Adagba, joined stakeholders in Nasarawa State on Thursday, 5th December 2025, for a high-level summit themed “Revitalizing the Future of Basic Education in Nasarawa State.”

The one-day event, held in Lafia and declared open by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, brought together education administrators, policymakers, and development partners from across the region to share ideas, showcase achievements, and chart a common path toward inclusive, technology-driven basic education.

Speaking at the summit, Dr. Adagba praised the initiative as a vital platform for cross-state learning. “This summit reflects our shared commitment to improving basic education in the North Central,” she said. “By exchanging ideas and best practices, we enhance our systems and ensure better learning outcomes for our children.”

Nasarawa’s SUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, used the occasion to outline his board’s flagship vision under Governor Sule’s administration: building an inclusive, technology-driven basic education system through the A. A. Sule project codenamed “Leave No Child Behind.” He revealed that the administration has already recruited 1,000 new teachers, constructed new classrooms, supplied furniture and instructional materials, and provided mini buses for sensitization and monitoring activities across the state.

Governor Sule, while commissioning chairs for distribution to schools and handing over the buses, reaffirmed his government’s readiness to meet all demands raised at the summit, including salary increments for teachers. He lauded Dr. Kassim’s youthful energy and promised full backing to ensure Nasarawa becomes a model for quality basic education in the region.

Dr. Adagba was accompanied by top officials of Benue SUBEB, including Board Secretary Dr. Joseph Jande, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation Comrade Patricia Gbuuga, Special Assistant (Technical) Dr. Eric Gowon, Procurement Officer Dr. Shimadoo Mtswenem, and Information Officer Akese Emmanuel.

The summit underscored a growing trend in the North Central zone where states are increasingly pooling experiences and resources to tackle common challenges in basic education, from teacher motivation and infrastructure deficits to digital inclusion and enrollment drives.

As the curtains fell on the Lafia deliberations, participants left with a renewed sense of purpose, convinced that collective action rather than isolated efforts holds the key to transforming basic education and securing a brighter future for millions of children across the region.
