Gov. Alia Confirms Confidence in Deputy Sam Ode, Dismisses Replacement Rumors

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has firmly put to rest speculations about replacing his deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking at the inauguration of commissioner nominees at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House in Makurdi, the governor categorically stated that there is “no vacancy” for the position of Deputy Governor in 2027.

Addressing the swirling rumors about a potential change in the deputy governorship, Governor Alia emphasized his unwavering support for Ode, describing him as a capable, people-oriented, and cerebral leader who understands governance and is committed to the progress of Benue State. “I have a Deputy Governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented. He is always with the people and for the people, and he is one who is very cerebral,” Alia said.

The governor expressed his satisfaction with Ode’s performance, highlighting his competence and alignment with the state’s developmental goals. “For anyone thinking otherwise, I do not know, but my Deputy is very capable. He has all the capacity it takes to perform his functions, and he understands what is good for Benue, and that is what he is doing exactly,” he added.

Dismissing the speculations as baseless, Alia underscored his strong professional and personal relationship with his deputy. “I love him, I enjoy working with him. I enjoy a personal relationship, so for those wishing the negativity, they won’t have their way,” he declared, sending a clear message to detractors and rumor-mongers.

The governor’s remarks come amid growing political discussions in Benue State as the 2027 elections draw closer. His public endorsement of Ode is seen as a move to solidify unity within his administration and quash any attempts to create discord ahead of the polls.
