Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, has urged residents of Otukpo to exercise restraint and avoid resorting to self-defense amid the ongoing wave of attacks in the area. Speaking during a public engagement with a large crowd, Ode assured the people that the government remains committed to protecting them and restoring peace in the region.
The Deputy Governor’s message comes as communities in Ugboju and surrounding areas continue to grapple with fresh herdsmen attacks that have left many dead and displaced. In the video circulating on social media, Ode addressed the agitated gathering, emphasizing that self-help measures could complicate the security situation.
While acknowledging the pain and frustration of the people following repeated assaults, he called for calm and trust in the government’s efforts to tackle the insecurity. The address reflects the administration’s attempt to de-escalate tensions and prevent further breakdown of law and order in Benue South.
Residents have been protesting the killings, with many demanding stronger security presence and direct intervention from Governor Hyacinth Alia. Dr. Ode’s visit and remarks aim to reassure the people that their concerns are being addressed at the highest levels.
