Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has paid a visit to Otukpo Local Government Area to sympathize with residents affected by recent herdsmen attacks in communities such as Ugboju and Otukpo-Nobi. The visit, which took place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, marks the first time since 2023 that the governor has travelled to the traditional headquarters of Benue South Senatorial District in response to the security crisis.

The visit comes shortly after widespread criticism, including an editorial by Idoma Voice questioning the governor’s earlier absence from the affected areas. Images from the engagement show the governor interacting with local leaders and visiting scenes related to the crisis, including hospitals treating victims.
While some residents welcomed the governor’s presence, others expressed mixed feelings, with calls for concrete security measures beyond condolences. The development is seen as a significant step toward addressing long-standing concerns about government attention to Benue South amid recurring violence.
