Tiv Protesters Storm Abuja Streets, Demand Federal Government Release Mathias Byuan to Help End Killings in Benue

A group of Tiv protesters on Tuesday took to the streets of Abuja, calling on the Federal Government to release Mathias Byuan, saying his intervention is urgently needed to address the ongoing killings in Benue State.

The demonstration, which drew concerned residents from Benue, follows rising fears over persistent attacks and insecurity affecting several communities across the state. The protesters, carrying placards, said they were not aware of any confirmed resignation by Byuan and insisted on hearing directly from him. They appealed to authorities to allow him to return and contribute to efforts aimed at restoring peace.

Byuan, who recently resigned as Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Abuja to pursue his gubernatorial ambition in 2027, has become a focal point for many in Benue who see him as a potential solution to the state’s security challenges. The protest highlights the growing public frustration over the unending cycle of violence in the state and the belief that Byuan’s expertise and influence could play a critical role in restoring stability.
