Solidarity Visit to Sen. Dr. George Akume

In a show of unity and appreciation, a delegation of Ipav stakeholders from across political divides paid a solidarity visit to Sen. Dr. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benue State and North Central Nigeria. The visit, which took place recently, highlighted the strong bond between the Ipav people and their leader.

The delegation, led by Elder Innocent Asongu Dogo, commended Sen. Akume for his unwavering support to the Ipav community over the years. A key highlight was his role in facilitating the historic appointment of Cosmas Terenge Akighir as the pioneer Chairman of NCDC Barr by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Elder Dogo praised Akume’s harmonious relationship with the Ipav people, pledging their full support to ensure his success in his current position and mandate.

Speaking on behalf of the illustrious sons of Ipav at home and in the diaspora, former Benue State Government Secretary, Prof. Tony Ijor, SAN, reaffirmed the loyalty of the Ipav people to Senator Akume. He acknowledged Akume’s impactful contributions to the development of Ipav and committed to adhering to the APC leader’s decisions and direction.

The visit also featured a spiritual dimension, with traditional rulers Zaki Orshi Ugese and Prof. J.T. Orsar praying for divine strength and wisdom for the SGF. They appealed to him to liaise with President Tinubu to resume the construction of the Yandev-ugbema-k/ala road, citing its deplorable state as a source of hardship for the Ipav people.

Responding to the delegation, Sen. Akume expressed his honor at receiving the Ipav stakeholders, noting their decision to visit as a clear demonstration of solidarity and love. He urged the Ipav people to remain united and actively participate in the ongoing voters’ registration as the election year approaches. He also promised to address the requests made by the delegation.

The SGF’s entourage included notable figures such as Sen. Jack Tilley Gyado, Chief Akange Audu, Engr. Begha Nyamkyume, Prof. Joseph Ngbea, Engr. Nick Wende, Chris Tarka, Hon. Tony Sende, and Mrs. Becky Orpin. A memorable moment was the decoration of Sen. Dr. George Akume in traditional attire by the Ipav stakeholders, symbolizing their cultural appreciation and support.

This visit underscores the strong relationship between Sen. Akume and the Ipav community, setting a positive tone for future collaboration and development initiatives.
