The Oweto-Oshigbudu road has deteriorated into a hazardous stretch that motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians are struggling to navigate, with thick mud and large pools of water turning the route into what many now describe as a death trap. Recent visuals from the area show riders carefully manoeuvring motorcycles through deep, waterlogged sections while others push or drag their machines across the sticky terrain.
Pedestrians are seen carefully picking their way through the sludge, some using sticks or helping one another to avoid sinking into the mud. Vehicles, including trucks and smaller cars, appear stalled or forced to move at a crawl as the road surface has been reduced to a continuous stretch of wet, uneven earth. The condition has left travellers exposed to delays, the risk of accidents and the daily ordeal of crossing what was once a functional link between communities.
Residents and road users have expressed frustration over the state of the road, which has become particularly challenging during the rainy season. The combination of heavy mud and standing water has made movement difficult for both commercial and private transport, raising concerns about safety and accessibility for people who depend on the route for daily activities and livelihood.
