The Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), established in July 2024 by the administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, is making remarkable progress in advancing digital transformation across Benue State. As a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) dedicated to expanding digital infrastructure, the company is deploying platforms, building connectivity, and enhancing human capital through skills development.
BDIC has deployed over 10 functional digital platforms and aims to create more than 100,000 digital jobs within a three-year period. Through strategic partnerships with global organizations such as Huawei Technologies, Cisco Networking Academy, WIPO, UNDP, and the Digital Bridge Institute, the company is delivering targeted training to 23,000 youths and 40,000 public servants in areas including ICT fundamentals, digital workflow systems, and enterprise platforms.
Key achievements include the rollout of broadband fiber-optic networks to government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), establishment of digital outsourcing centres, start-up support hubs, and e-commerce platforms. The company has also played a pivotal role in the digitization of the Benue State Civil Service, including the deployment of the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), Civil Service Information Management System, and the Benue State Executive Council (EXCO) Digital Platform.
In the education sector, BDIC has strengthened collaborations with institutions such as Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU) and Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University. Interventions include donations of locally manufactured desktop computers and multimedia projectors designed to withstand Benue’s climatic conditions, alongside a 50% discount on digital devices through the Benue @50 Special Digital Device Discount Programme.
These efforts have earned BDIC recognition as the “Best State ICT Agency” at the Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards 2025. Stakeholders, including university leaders and the Acting Head of Civil Service, Dr. Ihu Eunice Ogbenyi, have praised the company’s impact on productivity, e-governance, and inclusive digital access.
The initiatives underscore the Benue State Government’s commitment to a modern, technology-driven economy that leaves no segment of society behind. With ongoing projects in geographic information systems, smart campus developments, and capacity building, BDIC continues to position Benue as a rising hub for digital innovation and sustainable development in Nigeria.
