The achievement positions Benue alongside other top-performing states including Adamawa, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Ondo, as the only ones to attain full marks across all assessment indicators. The league table evaluated states based on the publication of proposed and approved budgets, quarterly budget implementation reports, availability of functional e-procurement portals, and public access to fiscal information through official government channels.
Benue scored the maximum points in each of the five categories assessed, indicating full compliance with transparency benchmarks. This represents a dramatic turnaround from the Q1 2023 ranking, where the state placed last among the 36 states with a score of just 28 per cent under the previous administration.

Officials attribute the success to ongoing reforms by the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, which have focused on strengthening public financial management, improving accountability, and expanding public access to government fiscal data. The report classifies states scoring 71-100 per cent as “Progressive” (Green), highlighting Benue’s position in this top tier.
The development is being celebrated as a significant milestone that enhances public confidence, attracts development partners, and signals reliability to potential investors. It adds to a series of national recognitions the state has received in recent years for improvements in governance and fiscal prudence.
The Benue State Government expressed appreciation to Governor Alia and the entire team driving this transformation, describing it as a testament to the administration’s commitment to openness and effective resource management for the benefit of the people.
