The Benue State Government has begun concrete steps toward the revival of the Star Cement Factory in Igumale and the Benue Burnt Bricks plant in Otukpo. The initiative forms part of a wider effort to restore abandoned state-owned industrial assets and stimulate economic growth across the state.
Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, MNI, disclosed the development during an audit tour of moribund industries in Benue South. He explained that Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia had directed him to carefully examine all abandoned state government factories in the zone and identify practical measures to return them to productive use.
“His Excellency, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has mandated me to understudy all abandoned state government factories in Benue South. We are here at the Star Cement Factory, Igumale, and Benue Burnt Bricks, Otukpo, to see things for ourselves,” the Deputy Governor stated.
He added that the administration would not allow viable public assets to continue wasting. “Our administration will not allow viable assets like this to waste. We will revive them to create jobs, grow our IGR, and restore pride to our people.”
Officials expect the planned reactivation of these facilities to generate employment opportunities for young people, attract private investment, boost internally generated revenue, and strengthen local economic activity throughout Benue South. The move also reflects the state government’s renewed determination to convert dormant public assets into productive ventures capable of contributing meaningfully to the state’s economy.
