Governor Alia Announces Three Military Units, Dam Project and Stance on Ranching During Sankera Town Hall

Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced that the Sankera area, covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas, will host three operational military units as part of measures to strengthen security in the region.

The units will be stationed at Agu in Katsina-Ala, Anyiin in Logo and Azendeshi in Ukum. The Governor also announced the donation of 30 motorcycles to security agencies in the area to facilitate general patrol and rapid response.

He made the declarations on Monday, August 24, 2026, during a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders of the Sankera political bloc in Katsina-Ala. The engagement forms part of his statewide thank-you tour aimed at appreciating All Progressives Congress (APC) members for electing him at the party primaries to fly the gubernatorial flag for the 2027 general elections. The tour is being used to hold Town Hall meetings with stakeholders grouped according to the 11 federal constituencies in the state.

On infrastructure and development, Governor Alia announced plans for the construction of a new dam with a projected capacity of 460 megawatts. He said the project would provide water and support electricity generation for the people of the state.

Addressing concerns surrounding ranching, the Governor assured the people that no ranch would be established in Benue without the consent of the people and his administration. “Nobody will force us to cede even an inch of our land to the pastoralist for any purpose. If that must happen, I can assure you, it will not be this time that I am still the Governor of Benue State,” he said.

The Town Hall meetings are expected to continue across the remaining federal constituencies in the coming days.
