Suspected Cultist Arrested in Benue as Troops Recover Locally Fabricated Pistol

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally fabricated pistol along with ammunition in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The arrest was made on June 22 at approximately 7:10 p.m. during a security operation conducted by troops of Sector 1 OPWS in the area. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the update on X, the suspect was picked up based on credible intelligence linking him to cult-related activities that have contributed to insecurity in the local government area.

Items recovered from the suspect include one locally fabricated pistol, two cartridges, and a bag containing suspected personal belongings.

Security sources confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation to establish his role, identify possible accomplices, and determine connections to other persons involved in similar activities. The operation forms part of broader efforts by security forces to curb cultism and other forms of criminality in Benue State and neighbouring regions.
