Emmanuel Jime Apologises for Offensive Remarks Against Governor Hyacinth Alia

Former Benue State gubernatorial candidate, Rt. Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Jime, has issued an unreserved apology over remarks he made about Governor Hyacinth Alia during his birthday celebrations on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

In a statement posted on social media, Jime admitted that while appreciating the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, at his event, he made “uncharacteristic” and “offensive” characterizations of the governor, referring to him as “this thing that is afflicting us.”

He described the comment as beneath him and deeply regretted the insinuation, noting that it was made on the spur of the moment.

Jime clarified that his core message was to affirm his support for Sen. George Akume’s leadership, stressing that “no man born of a woman can take out Sen. George Akume.”

He extended apologies to all who found the statement offensive and prayed for God’s blessings upon Benue State.

The apology comes after a video of the initial remarks went viral, sparking widespread reactions across the state.
