A young Nigerian woman identified as Ngufan from Benue State has died in Mali, with reports indicating she was a victim of human trafficking. The tragic news was shared by anti-human trafficking activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, who is known for his work rescuing Benue girls trafficked to various African countries for prostitution.
In a Facebook post, Yaaya announced the death of the Tiv woman, stating “Another Benue sister (Tiv) died in Mali today,” and appealed for relatives to inbox him for identification and support. The post included photographs of the deceased, showing her in different settings, which quickly gained significant attention and engagement from the Benue community.
According to available information, Ngufan was allegedly trafficked out of Nigeria through human trafficking networks before her death under circumstances that remain unclear. No official confirmation or detailed cause of death has been provided by authorities at the time of the report.
Yaaya’s post highlights the persistent dangers faced by vulnerable young women from Benue State who fall prey to trafficking syndicates operating across West Africa.
