Former Benue State Governor, Sen. Dr. Gabriel Suswam, has urged his supporters to remain calm, prayerful and steadfast in their political engagements, assuring them that God is involved. Suswam’s media aide, Bede Bartholomew, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, describing the former governor as cheerful, confident and in high spirits as he departed Makurdi for Abuja after a weekend of engagements with political associates and supporters.
Bartholomew said Suswam’s outing followed what he described as speculation by some individuals that the former governor was in France with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to seek a political ticket. According to the statement, Suswam, who served as governor between 2007 and 2015, spent the weekend in Makurdi holding meetings with his core political loyalists, youths and party stakeholders from Benue North East senatorial district and other parts of the state.
He said the former governor, while departing the state capital on Tuesday morning, was accompanied to Abuja by several political associates and government officials who came to wish him a safe journey. Among those present, according to Bartholomew, were the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Rural Development in Benue State, Dr. Ortese Yanmar; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Rt. Hon. Ankwa Amo II; former member of the Benue State House of Assembly and grassroots politician, Hon. Thomas Mlanga; Hon. Barr. Ginawa Gbaya; and Hon. Emmanuel Emma Hangeior, among others.
Bartholomew said Suswam interacted individually with those who came to see him off and expressed appreciation for their support and loyalty. He quoted the former governor as urging his supporters to remain calm, prayerful and committed, while continuing to keep faith in the unfolding political process. “Be in high spirits; God is involved,” Suswam was quoted as saying. Bartholomew added that the former governor remained focused and optimistic about the future as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
