The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Hon. Prince Maxwell Ogiri, FCAI, has clarified that his recent commendation of the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for clearing inherited salary arrears refers specifically to the outstanding arrears owed Benue State Civil Servants.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 27th September 2026, and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Joshua Otene, the chairman stated that for the avoidance of doubt, the inherited salary arrears owed Local Government Staff, as well as staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), are still outstanding and have not yet been cleared by the present administration.
The clarification is necessary to avoid any misunderstanding or misrepresentation of the facts concerning the various categories of workers affected by inherited salary liabilities. The Executive Chairman remains appreciative of Governor Alia’s efforts toward improving workers’ welfare and expresses the hope that the outstanding arrears owed Local Government and SUBEB workers will also be addressed.
